The Kettle

Pen and pale wash on white paper. A bald, bearded man sits at the near end of an impossibly long kitchen table, a vermilion kettle steaming beside him, the only red thing. He has just pushed a second cup of tea along the table; it slides alone toward a woman in a coat at the far door, a moving box under her arm, who hesitates.

Moving day.

She let him keep the kettle.

He made two cups anyway, which was not the deal.

The cup is still on its way.

I draw everything at the size it feels, not the size it is.

Tell me a small moment from your life. I’ll show you what it really looks like. Leave it as a comment on my Instagram or reply to the letter.
